Everest High Pass Trek

Overview

 

Everest High Pass is a striving and escapade trekking that crosses three passes namely the Kogma La pass (5540 m), Cho La pass (5300 m) and Renjo La pass (4790 m) in the Khumbu Region. This trek connects all the main attractions of the Everest region and is arranged for those trekkers who have the enthusiasm to experience the trekking to this high Himalayas in the trail heads through isolated valleys, communities, terraces, hills and several other snowcapped peaks enclosed by memorable mountains. It also combines with the grandest Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar which adds more challenge to your trek.

This trekking commences from the scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From there, we will be trekking through several Sherpa village sideways on the trail viewing the mesmerizing mountainous views and then reach Namche Bazaar. We will spend rest of our time here acclimatizing and prepare ourselves for further trekking upwards to high altitude. From Namche Bazaar, we diverge off the beaten track following the Bhote Koshi valley through the Renjo La Pass to Gokyo Lake. Then we head to Lobuche, from where we reach to the Everest Base Camp and trek to the topmost of Kala Patthar and then to Gorakshep.

This three challenging high passes and mountain summits bids us the astonishing view of snowcapped Khumbu glacier in addition to Mount Everest (8848 m), Mount Ama Dablam (6812 m), Mount Lhotse (8516 m), Mount Nuptse (7861 m), Mount Cholatse (6440 m) and Mount Makalu (8485).

Beside mountains views, this trek covers almost all around the Everest region. Like trekking to this high craggy landscape of the High passes, you get to explore culture, traditions, and livelihood of the most inhabitants of this region, the Sherpa people.You also get to visit Buddhist monasteries and spot several rare wildlife animals including the musk deer, snow leopard, Himalayan Thar, pheasants and several other wild species on the trail. If lucky enough, you also might get to spot the mythical Yeti!

This trekking is somewhat moderate stimulating trek which necessitates an advanced level of physically and mentally trekking fitness. This challenging trek takes you to the whole circuit of the Everest Region, which makes the adventure more outstanding plus getting the glimpse of the entire Khumbu region.

This trekking can be carried out in spring from the month of March to May and in autumn from the month of September to December. Detail Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu

You will be welcomed by the representative of Accent Himalaya after your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and drop you to the hotel. At noon, we will discuss our trip. You will be invited to dinner for Nepali food.

Day 2 : Trek Preparation and Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour

Today we will be going to sightsee some sites of the Kathmandu valley. We visit some historical places like Basantapur, Patan and religious place like the Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, etc.

Day 3 : Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2652 m & 8699 feet) Duration: 3 hours

We will take the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla with an awesome vision of the hills and peaks. After landing we will trek for Phakding with arresting view of the green landscape and amazing view of Kusum Kangraru.

Day 4 : Trek Namche Bazaar (3440 m & 11283 feet) Duration: 6 hour

Our journey will start after breakfast following the River Dudh Khosi, ascending through the Himalayan pine forest and cedar forests, to the celebrated village of Namche  Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the historical treading point of Nepali Tibetan, exchanging salt dried meat textiles weapons etc.  

Namche Bazaar is the point of attraction for tourist because of the market of the traditional crafts. We will spend two days in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. We will visit and observe the views of the Namche Bazaar. On the hiking, we will capture our glimpses of Mount Everest and others.

Day 5 : Namche Bazar and Everest View Hotel

Today we acclimatize the Namche Bazaar and we also hike to Syanboche Airport (3700 m), which is supposed to be the highest airport, and we continue to climb to Everest View Point Hotel. We can see the great panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Tawache etc. on the way back to Namche Bazaar, we will visit Sherpa culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallary.

Day 6 : Trek to Tengboche (3860 m & 12660 feet) Duration: 5 hours

We trek to the uniform and easy trail towards the view of Mount Everest, deep descending into the Dudh Khosi Valley at Pungki Thanka. From there we ascend the right flank of the Dudh Koshi Valley to Tengboche Monastery (3860 m). It is the spiritual center of the Khumbu’s. Then after our journey is much longer but the heart touching and refreshing views of Mt. Amadablam and Mt. Everest with surrounding peaks (on a clear day) makes the trip easy and romantic.

Day 7 : Trek to Dingboche (4410 m & 14464 feet) Duration: 5 hours

Descending through the beautiful forest, we will cross the Imja Khola and pass through the village of the Tengboche. Our adventure is going to be more interesting because you won’t lose altitude same as other days, enjoying the amazing views of the Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, and other peaks. Finally, we will reach the Dingboche also known as the “summer valley“.

Day 8: Trek to Chhukung (4700 m & 15416 feet) Duration: 2 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse

Today we will trek to Chhukung (4700 m,15416 ft) and stay there.

Day 9 : Hiking to Chhukung Ri (5540m/18171ft)

Today we will be hiking to Chhukung Ri (5540 m, 18171 ft) and again come back to Chhukung. And we stay in Chhukong at the guesthouse.

Day 10 : Trek to Lobuche (4910 m & 16104 feet) via Kongma La pass (5335 m & 17498 feet) Duration: 7-8 hours

Our journey starts with the first light trekking from Chhukung as we have to conquest the highest pass of the trip today. Because there is no any tea shop or any stall we carry plenty of water, some snacks, and a packed lunch.

The remoteness and the absolute nature will be really enjoyed. We have an option to choose the possible way - either we walk back down to Bibre and follow the Niyang Khola or climb over to the northwest of Chhukung over the moraine of the Nuptse Glacier. After some walk, we can reward by great views of Island peak-valley and ridge of the Amphu Lapcha. Ascending the east side of Nyang Khola valley we turn west and walk through the sloppy stone trail

We will pass through a wide basin dotted with small frozen lakes. Upon reaching the top, we will able to see cairn wrapped in prayer flags, - marks of the pass. We will climb the moraine on the far side and our trail turns north through Khumbu Glacier which takes us to Lubuche.

Day 11 : Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364 m & 17594 feet) & back to Gorekshep (5181 m & 16994 feet) Duration: 8 hours

Our journey is for Kala Patthar - the best vantage point to view the entire south face of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. Around a couple of hours, we will get to Gorekshep, and continue our journey to the Everest base camp.

There is not much elevation gain but there are a lot of ups and downs and, combined with altitude that can be an exhausting trek but the journey is worth it. After approximately 3 hrs of hiking, we will reach the base camp and enjoy an attractive view of the Khumbu glacier and snowfall.

Day 12 : Hiking to Kala Patthar (5545 m & 18188 feet) - Gorekshep and trek to Dzongla (4830 m & 15840 feet) Duration: 7 hours

Today we start with hiking up to Kalapattar (5545 m, 18188 ft) which is the best viewpoint to witness Mt. Everest and the spectacular Himalayan range. Then we trek back to Gorekshep for hot breakfast and then descend to Dzongla.

Day 13 : Trek to Dragnak/Thangna (4700 m & 15415 feet) via crossing Cho La pass (5420 m & 17780 feet) Duration: 7 hrs

Our day starts by climbing to Chola-la crossing over and descending one more time to Thanga.

Day 14 : Trek to Gokyo Lakes (4790 m & 15710 feet) Duration: 2-3 hours

Today we will trek to Gokyo Lake crossing over Ngozumpa Glacier. Gokyo village stands by the third lake and Cho-Oyu Mountain as a backdrop sets an amazing spectacular sight at this juncture. After lunch, you may explore around the Lake Dudh Pokhari.

Day 15 : Hiking to Gokyo Ri (5483 m & 19083 feet) and back to Gokyo Lake, Duration 3-4 hours

Early in the morning, we have a steep climb up to the top of Gokyo Ri ample rewards to one attempt this trip. There are stunning views of the amazing Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas (Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu  Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang). Those who explore the glacier and Gokyo peak are highly rewarded with amazing views. This day we have for acclimatization and afternoon back to the camp.

Day 16 : Trek to Lunden (4300 m & 14104 feet) via crossing Renjo La pass (5340 m & 17843 feet) Duration: 7 hours

The crossing of the Renjo La Pass will be exciting and challenging as we descend into remoteness northern Valley where access is restricted and the landscape is progressively that of the Tibetan Valleys beyond the border. There is a chance we will meet Tibetan Traders descending from the Nangpa La pass that leads through the Himalayas from Tibet with their caravans of woolly yaks laden with goods.

Day 17 : Trek to Thame (3800 m & 13464 feet) Duration: 4 hours

Early in the morning, we take our breakfast and then trek down to Thame, much more amazing snow peaks. We might have a chance to meet Tibetan trader encampments along the way for pictures of a rare lifestyle. About 150 meters above Thame, there is a Thame Monastery, a picturesque monastery set among the many homes of monks and lay people. It's perched on the side of a hill overlooking the valley. This is the place for the celebration of the Mani Rimdu festival that is held in the middle of May each year.

Day 18 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m & 11283 feet) Duration: 4 hrs

Today we are going trek following the flat, descending to rest place Thamo. Then after we will be heading towards to Namche Bazaar.

Day 19 : Trek to Lukla (2800 m & 9184 feet) Duration: 7 hours

Our journey continues along the side of the Dudh Koshi River to the small mountain airstrip at Lukla, where we will be going to take our flight to Kathmandu.

Day 20: Fly back to Kathmandu

We will come back to Kathmandu through flight with amazing memories of the entire journey. Our journey might be of 30 minutes.

Day 22 : Final Departure and Farewell

Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight, a representative from the Accent Himalaya will take you to the airport. If you have more time, you can do some shopping or sightseeing.
