Bumdra Trek including Paro, Thimphu, Punakha touring is one of the best and easy tours around the main cities of Bhutan and Bumdra region. We end our tour exploring the - Taktsang Monastery also recognized as Tiger's Nest monastery. Accommodation during the trek will be a homestay in the village of Punakha where you get ample time to explore their culture, traditions & their lifestyle. Beginning of this trek to Bumdra, you need to ascend for a bit longer and after that our trek will be relatively easy with stunning views of snowcapped mountains.

Touring Bhutan city, we will be visiting spiritual and historical heritage landmarks like TashiDzong, ParoRinpung Dzong, and national memorial chortens, etc. This tour is for those passionate travelers who desire to explore Bhutan's rich cultural and religious aspects and go for little hours of trek witnessing magnificent vista of the snowcapped mountains.

Bhutan city with Bhumdra trek begins from a scenic flight to Paro and heading to the hotel. Then we start our tour visiting several landmarks and heritage spots of Paro like Rinpungdzong, Kichulhangkhang, Drugyaldzong. From the high point of Drugyaldzong, we get to spot beautiful Mount Jomolhari or Chomolhari (7326 m & the second highest mountain of Bhutan). Next, we will be exploring Punakha city, where we will be visiting Chimilhangkhang and Punakha Dzong. Next, we head to Thimpu and will be visiting KuensalPhodrang which is the main religious Buddha center which holds the biggest Buddha statue in the world at around 51 m.

Next, we will be sightseeing Thimpu and stopover to visit some of the landmarks like memorial chorten, zoo, museums, Thimpudzong. Then we will be hiking to Bhumdra region - where on the trails - we will spot colorful prayer flags with views of striking snowcapped peaks. And on the way, we visit Chhoetshelangkhang and lastly, we hike to Taktsang monastery (Tiger Nest monastery).

Day 01: Arrival and sightseeing in Paro (2,250m/7,382ft)

As we land at the airport of Paro, our Accent Himalaya team will welcome you and drop you at the hotel. After freshen up & lunch, we will be visiting the Rinpung Dzong and from here (if the weather is clear), we will get to view the second highest mountain of Bhutan - Mount Chomolhari (7314 m). We will be spending our night at Paro.

Day 02: Paro to Punakha (1300m / 4265 ft.): 4 hours

We will drive to Punakha through Dochu la pass if the weather permits - we will get amazing views of the Himalayas from the pass. After that, we will drive down through the hemlock, fir and rhododendron forests. We will be stopping on the way to visit the Chime Dhaka hangs temple and then continue our drive to Punakha. After reaching Punakha, we will be visiting the Punakha Dzong. After that, we will be also visiting the longest suspension bridge of Bhutan. Today we will be staying at the local homestay to be familiar with the local Bhutanese people and their lifestyles.

Day 03: Punakha to Thimphu (2,320m/7,610ft): 3 hours

After breakfast, we will begin our scenic drive to Thimphu and pass the Dochu La Pass and the dense forests. As we reach Thimpu, we will be visiting the Bhutan post office headquarters.  After that, we will be exploring the Kuensel Phodrang - where there is tallest Buddha statue which is 51 m. The statue, as well as the surrounding, is very beautiful with clean and peace surrounding and here we will be spending some time and then return back to the hotel.

Day 04: Sightseeing in Thimphu

Today we will be sightseeing Thimpu by visiting the landmarks of Thimpu. We will begin first by exploring the Memorial Chorten, the nunnery temple, the mini zoo where we will get to observe the national animal of Bhutan - Takin. After that, we will be touring Changangkha monastery and Thimpu Dzong. After that, we will have our lunch and visit the traditional painting institute, medicinal institute, museum, paper factory and Tasho Chho dzong. We will be spending our night at Thimpu.

Day 05: Drive to Sang Choekor Buddhist University then hike to Bumdra (3500m/11482ft): 4 hours walk

Today we will drive to Sang Choekor Buddhist University through Paro. Here we will be meeting our horses prior to climbing for about 2 hours on a wooded ridge which will transport us to a clearing and from here; we will acquire an excellent view of both Paro and Do-Chhu valley. We will be continuing on our track and then reach Chhoe Tse Lhakhang - a temple which swank superior view of the snow capped peaks. After that, we will be climbing all the way through forest and colorful prayer flags. We will be setting our camping site just beneath Bumdra Monastery and from here we can take pleasure the view of the range of Himalayas.

Day 06: Hike Bumdra to Paro via Tiger’s Nest Monastery (3180m/10433ft): 6 hours

After having our breakfast, we begin our trek through the winding trail which leads us rhododendron and pine forests. Then we will descend down further and get the glimpse of the golden roof of monasteries. Then we will be hiking to the tiger next monastery (also known as Taktsang monastery) situated on the high cliff. We will be spending some time in Taktsang monastery and finally retrace back to our hotel in Paro.

Day 07: Final departure

Today your journey of Bhutan city tour and Bhumdra trek and homestay finally ends and the team member of Accent Himalaya will drop you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule.

Accommodation on Bhutan

Accent Himalaya manages its best to provide comfortable accommodation. Bhutanese hotels are approved and classified by the Government of Bhutan as grade A, B, and C which is equivalent to 3 or 4-star hotels elsewhere. Based on availability at the time booking, Grade ‘A’ hotels will be provided in cities like Thimpu, Paro and so. All accommodations are on a twin-shared basis. A single supplement can be served on request with an additional charge.

Meals and Drinks on Bhutan

All the meals and breakfast required for you are included as in our package. A variety of meals are available in most hotels - the most popular being Indian, Chinese, and the more common Continental food. Non-vegetarian dishes are generally available in most parts of Bhutan such as pork, beef, chicken, and fish. Also for the best is to ask the hotel and restaurant to recommend for seasonal and fresh food. Dinner and breakfast will be served in the same hotel where you spend overnight and the team leader or guide will find you a good place for lunch on the way to your destination. We recommend you to carry water purification pills along with you as normal water will be provided free of cost. But if you wish to drink bottled water, they are also available. However, bottled water and liquors are not included in the package.

Best Time to Travel

Best Seasons to visit Bhutan are in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-October). The months of April and May offer the natural grandeur of rhododendron blooms although Bhutan observes its biggest festivals during spring. Bhutan can also be visited during summer and winter if one wishes to avoid the crowd. However, summers are wet and winters are pretty cold which might not suit everyone.

Luggage or Backpack for tour

You will be carrying a small backpack with your water bottle, camera, tissue paper, towel, or other gears that you need to use frequently on the trip. The clothes and gears that you don’t need can be packed and left in the locker or safe deposit box in the hotel free of cost.

Druk Air has a 44 pound (20 kg) weight limit for checked luggage and another 11-pound weight limit for carry-on luggage on their flights. Your carry-on bags are restricted to one piece, and the size should not exceed 17" x 13" x 8". You have to remember following things before packing:

Please be advised that there are no trekking stores in Bhutan. Therefore, sleeping bag and daypack items should be brought with you prior as these are two indispensable items for trekking. Accent Himalaya does provide trekking equipment such as tents, stoves, fuels, sleeping pads, cooking and eating utensils and first aid kit.

Personal Expenses on Trek

Your personal expense literally depends upon your personal habit; whether you are alcoholic or non-alcoholic, extravagant or thrifty and so on. Normally, the cost of the meal and accommodation during the trek are covered in our package and you will be liable to pay for table drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), snacks while trekking, souvenirs, hot shower (available at some places) tips to the guide and porters. Tips to the guide and porter are your personal choice. However, we advise you to give tip and allocate 10-15 percent of your total tour cost if you are satisfied with their service.

Our Greetings at Airport

We advise you to flow the information of your international flight details after you confirm your Bhutan City Tour with Bumdra Trek with Accent Himalaya for our meeting and greetings. Right after you cross the Customs and check out of the terminal building, you will find our representative holding a placard with your name or the name of the company (Accent Himalaya) and drop you to your hotel in a private car. In case you have booked the hotel by yourself, we suggest you inform us in advance the name of the hotel you are about to stay so that our representative can drop you to your hotel and would be easier to meet with the team leader or the guide.

Itinerary and Possible Changes on it

Our normal Itinerary includes 7 days for Bhutan City Tour with Bumdra Trek which is the most usual and practical. In the package, the days of your arrival and departure and a day of city tour are also counted. In case you managed further schedule, you want to exclude those days for our service and just want us to help you with the trekking part, upon your request, we can rearrange and adjust the itinerary and let you know about the final cost for the trip.

Also, you can extend or shorten your trek if you feel it’s necessary with consulting our guide on the way to your destination. We recommend you to finish the trek within the last day mentioned in our package as many unforeseen circumstances may befall at any time.


Health, Safety, and Security of the clients are always our top most priority. So, In case of a serious sickness or any mishaps, while you are on Bhutan City Tour with Bumdra Trek (which we believe will not happen), we will do everything to transfer you to the nearest hospital to save your life and you are entirely liable for all the expenses incurred in evacuation/rescue. So, please make sure that these expenses are covered by your insurance policy before assigning for the trek or you have to pay on your own after getting back to Kathmandu. Booking and Payment

You are required to make 20% (nonrefundable) payment in advance in order to confirm and book Bhutan City Tour with Bumdra Trek along with a photocopy of your passport and flight details (arrival detail, flight name, number and time) and the remaining 80% balance is due when you arrive in Nepal.
