Gokyo Ri Trek is one of the most popular and guts-proving treks in the Everest region to observe the simplicity of the Himalayan life (mountain life) and catch the views of splendid and alluring snowcapped mountains while enjoying the amazing floral and faunal diversity. Trekking to Gokyo Ri Valley leads you to the elevation of 5345 m (17518 ft) which offers you the jaw-dropping landscapes of the Everest, Gokyo Lake and Ngozumpa glacier including other famous peaks.

Highlights

The sole purpose of Trekking to Gokyo Ri Valley is to observe the Gokyo Lake (a set of six lakes) and many others at the highest altitude. The view of Ngozumpa glacier (the biggest glacier in the mountain region) and the pristine views of Mount Everest (8848 m), Cho You (8156 m), Mount Makalu (8470 m) and many other mountains, glaciers, and lakes captures your heart when you push yourself through this route.

If you want to imprint magnificent and lively experiences of Himalayan beauty and mountain life, your holidays are worth spending in this Valley. This region is also considered very sacred region since Gokyo Lake is the shrine to worship for many Hindu and Buddhist devotees around the globe. During Janai Purnima, many devotees set out to this place for pilgrimage.

Summary

Gokyo Ri Trekking begins from 40 minutes flight in a domestic airline from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla. Then observing the mystic beauties and winding trails, you will climb uphill to Phakding village passing many beautiful Sherpa hamlets on the way. Now, the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi River (Milk River) which is also one of the tributaries of Shapta Koshi River. Walking along the Dudh Koshi valley, you will reach Namche Bazaar which is the heavenly abode of Sherpa inhabitants in the lap of Mount Everest.

It is also the major portal to Everest Region. Acclimatizing yourself with a short hike to and fro around Namche Bazaar for a day, you will move to Gokyo crossing dense rhododendron forest, Kharkas, and Macherma (a lovely Sherpa village) on the way. The next day, you will climb up to Gokyo Ri, (the highest place of this Gokyo Valley) trekking from where you can enjoy the surreal view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang. Then you will be returning back to Lukla and fly to Kathmandu to wrap up the trekking.

Day 01 - Arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu (1345 m)

When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal; a representative of Accent Himalaya will pick you up in a private car from there to the hotel where you can get refreshed. In the evening, you will be welcomed by Accent Himalaya offering a typical Nepali dinner which provides you a different taste.

Day 02 - Trip meeting and Sightseeing the Kathmandu Valley.

This day, after having breakfast, you will sneak out for sightseeing Kathmandu valley which is also known as the city of the temples. We will also visit some UNESCO’s world heritage sites of Kathmandu. This includes the Pashupatinath temple, the Patan Durbar Square, the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Boudhanath, and Swayambunath temple (also famous as Monkey Temple) where you can observe Nepalese historical and cultural arts and architecture, religious shrines, practices and much more. Idols, handicrafts, sculptures and the museums will please you. If time permits, you will be taken to enjoy the touristic city - Thamel for shopping and recreation.

Day 03 - Fly to Lukla (2804 m) - 35 mins & Trek to Phakding (2610 m) - 3 Hrs

On this lovely day, after having breakfast, you will be taken to Tribhuvan International Airport from where you will fly to Tenzin-Hillary Airport, Lukla enjoying the stunning silvery mountains and green hills. There you will meet all the crew members and the real trekking kicks off from there. On the way up to Phakding, you will cross Dudh Koshi River (Milk River) and walk through small Sherpa communities and finally, you will take rest at a guesthouse in Phakding.

Day 04 - Trek to Namche Bazaar (3441 m) - 5.5 Hrs.

The journey of the fourth day leads you to Namche Bazaar along the lovely trails where you come across many villages, monasteries, and Chortens. You will walk along Dudh Koshi River and cross many suspension bridges over the river. You can also sight many enthralling peaks like Kwangde, Kusum Kangaro, and mountains such as Everest, Tawache, Lhotse and much more. You will get a sound rest at Namche Bazaar.

Day 05 - Namche Bazaar Acclimatization Day

This is quite a leisure day. On this day, you will walk around Namche Bazaar and observe Sherpa culture and custom. You will also take a short hike to Syangboche Airport near Everest View Hotel observing Sherpa villages. From there, you can be rewarded with an awe-inspiring view of undiluted mountains, sunrise, and sunset. You can also visit monastery houses and see a Yeti Scalp. Then you will return back to the guesthouse.

Day 06 - Trek to Phorste Thanga (3680 m) - 5 Hrs.

On this day after enjoying the breakfast, you will set out for Phorste Thanga. On the way, you may get a chance to see Himalayan Thars, pheasants, musk deer and much other Himalayan flora and fauna. Then after you will descend to Kyanjuma. On reaching Sansa, you start following the route to Gokyo and Mong from where you can gaze the view of AmaDablam, Thamserku, Tawoche and Khumbila mountains. Before reaching Phorste, our trails descend to Dudh Koshi after walking through rhododendron forests. From Phorste, we may get the amazing views of Tawache and Cho Laste.

Day 07 - Trek to Machherma (4470 m) - 5 Hrs.

On a trail along the Dudh Khosi River, we pass the Gokyo Lake. On the way of our journey, we might enjoy the Chilatse and Taboche peaks. Before reaching Dole, we pass Machherma, Luza, and Lhafarma.

Day 08 - Trek to Gokyo (4,790m) - 5.5 hrs.

On this day - you will slowly descend down towards Namche Bazaar. You will walk along dense rhododendron forest and enjoy the Himalayan wildlife. We slowly leave the mountains and picks behind. Then you will climb up enjoying the amazing view of Cho Oyu, Kantage, and Thamserku mountains. Then you will ascend to Luza Village and walk over the Dudh Koshi River. You need to walk along some steep trails and sandy way before reaching Gokyo. You can find a primary health center there for the Himalayan rescue.

Day 09 - Trek to Gokyo Ri (5,483m) and back to Gokyo - 5 hrs.

You should be happy yourself. You will reach your final destination, Gokyo Ri on this day. You will spend there sightseeing and be observing the view of the Gokyo peak and many other splendid mountains. You can also explore the Dudh Pokhari there. Finally, you will take a sound rest descending back to Gokyo.

Day 10 - Trek to Dole (4200 m ) - 6 Hrs.

On a trail along the Dudh Khosi River, you will pass the Gokyo Lake. On the way of our journey, you can enjoy the view of Thamserku, Cho Yu, Chilatse and Taboche peaks. Before reaching Dole, you will pass Machherma, Luza, and Lhafarma.

Day 11 - Trek to Namche Bazaar via Khumjung village (3780 m) - 5 Hrs.

On this day, you will leave Dole to Namche Bazaar. After reaching Namche Army Camp, you will pause for a moment to gaze the top of the Lhotse, Everest, and Tengboche for the last time during your journey. And after some walking, you will reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 12 - Trek to Lukla (2,804m) - 6 hrs.

On this day, you will finish the trekking on the rocky and steep trails after reaching Lukla from where you start your journey. You can laze around Lukla Bazaar in the evening to enjoy the evening scene.

Day 13 - Morning flight back to Kathmandu.

On this day, you will return back to Kathmandu by air reminiscing the most exciting experience of your journey. After you land at the Kathmandu Airport, you will be brought back to the hotel. You can stroll around the market and buy souvenirs to your nearest and dearest one and at night, the farewell dinner will be hosted by Accent Himalaya and Team.

Day 14 - Transfer for your final flight departure.

On this last day of your journey, you will be accompanied by a staff of Accent Himalaya from the hotel and will see you off at the airport. You will now start missing your journey, food, guide and much more.
