Kathmandu Valley and Tea Garden Tour

Overview

This tour is designed for those who want to explore the rich cultural heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley as well as has the desire to visit the tea gardens located in the high hills of Illam district of eastern Nepal. This is a week tour which begins with sightseeing some of the UNESCO heritage sites of Kathmandu like the - Kathmandu Durbar square (palace), the Pashupatinath temple, the Swayambhunath temple and the Boudhanath stupa.

We then fly to Jhapa (Illam) and explore the beautiful tea gardens and taste the aromatic tea of Nepal’s tea garden. We then return back to Kathmandu, explore the ancient cities - Patan and Bhaktapur and end our tour by heading to Nagarkot to take pleasure in the sunrise and sunset views.

This beautiful journey begins from the capital city visiting the four heritage sites enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kathmandu Durbar Square is an ancient palace where Malla king ruled over this country a century ago. Surrounding this square, there are few temples crafted with ancient arts and architectures. Next, we will explore the Pashupatinath temple - one of the sacred temple of Hindus which is said to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The same day, we will be visiting another site – the Swayambhunath temple (also recognized as monkey temple).  Our next point of interest is the largest stupa of South Asia i.e. the Boudhanath stupa. The subsequent day, we fly to Jhapa and drive to Illam tea garden exploring the fine-looking greenery landscapes.

From the top of the Kanyam hill (1687 m), we get the impressive view of the Kanchenjunga and several other mountains. We then drive to Bhadrapur and take off back to Kathmandu and explore the two medieval cities Patan and Bhaktapur. We end our tour heading to Nagarkot whilst the famous point to view the sunrise and sunset. The best preferable season to visit this beautiful country is non-other than spring (March-May) and fall (September-December) as it’s the best time for tea plantation.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Upon your arrival at the airport, our representative from Accent Himalaya will pick you up from the airport and drop you to the respective hotel. You can get refreshed and relax for a while. Later in the afternoon, we make a visit to the office of Accent Himalaya. In the evening, the Company will be presenting you a welcome dinner in the finest Nepali restaurant which serves the mouthwatering Nepali cuisine. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath and Bauddhanath

On this second day, we will start by visiting some of the UNESCO heritage sites of Kathmandu such as the Kathmandu Durbar square. In this area, you can find interesting ancient palaces and temples which displays ancient Nepali arts and architecture. Next, we will head to the most important Hindu temple known as the Pashupatinath temple - a sacred Hindu temple where Hindu devotees from around the world come from different countries to worship. After that, we will be heading to the Swayambhunath temple - one of the pilgrimage site to both Hindus and Buddhists. This temple is also known as monkey temple owing a large number of monkeys in this area. Next and lastly for today, we will explore the most known and most visited heritage sites known as the Boudhanath stupa which happens to be the largest stupa in the world with thousands of prayer wheels surrounding the stupa.

Day 03: Fly to Jhapa then Drive to Ilam: 45 minutes flight, 3 hours drive

Today we take a flight to Bhadrapur airport in Jhapa and then take a scenic drive to Illam - a lovely hill town well-known for tea garden plantation. Due to its moderate climate, fertile lands and the low land green hills this region Illam is called as queen of hills. We will spend our night in Illam.

Day 04: Ilam and Kanyam Tea Gardens tour

Today we will be adoring the sunrise view from the hill including with the striking Himalayas. After that, we will head to the Kanyam estates where the land is utilized for the tea plantation which harvests dark smooth - smoky flavored tea alike tea of Darjeeling. This spot is also best for a picnic, exploring and trial varieties of tea. We will wander around the Illam Street. We will spend our night in Illam.

Day 05: Drive to Bhadrapur then fly back to Kathmandu

Today we will go back to Bhadrapur and take a flight to Kathmandu. As we reach Kathmandu, we will spend our day shopping in Thamel area - one of the best tourist hub of Kathmandu. We will spend our night in Kathmandu. 

Note: If you want to extend the trip to Darjeeling from Bhadrapur, Accent Himalaya can arrange it for you.

Day 06: Sightseeing in Patan and Bhaktapur and Sunrise or Sunset views from Nagarkot

Today we will be sightseeing two ancient cities Patan and Bhaktapur. Patan is famous for pre-historic arts and architecture and also the Patan Durbar square which is also registered in the UNESCO world heritage site. Next, we will be exploring the Bhaktapur city by visiting some cultural landmarks which are the golden gate, Nyata pola temple, water spouts and 55 window palace. After that, we take a drive to Nagarkot at the altitude of 7200 ft. This region is famous for viewing the sunrise and sunset view including with the Himalayas.

Day 07: Final departure

Today your journey to Kathmandu valley and tea garden tour finally comes to an end and our representative from Accent Himalaya will be dropping you at the airport three hours earlier before your flight schedule.
