Baruntse Expedition with Mera Peak Climbing

Overview

This expedition blends two most popular peaks in one particular package. Baruntse at the elevation of 7129 meters lies between the well-known peak Lhotse (8516 m) and Makalu (8485 m) and Mera Peak to the south of Everest. This peak – Baruntse was first recognized by Sir Edmund Hillary while heading to the east of the Everest and was first climbed in 1954 by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow via the South East Ridge.

This peak is located at the center of three valleys Barun, Hunku and the Imja in the Khumbu region. As from the summit of this peak, you get the several Himalayan mountainous views.  Nonetheless, you will be rewarded with closest views of three most popular peaks – Everest (8848 m), Lhotse (8516 m) and Makalu (8485 m). Many summiteers attempt from the south ridge and had successfully accomplished this Baruntse expedition as south ridge being the easiest way.

Mera peak (6461 m) is one of the popular charming peaks which rises to the south of Mount Everest and was first climbed by Sen Tenzing and J.O.M. Roberts in 1953. But the proper ascent was done in 1975 by the French climbers Marcel Jolly, G. Baus and L. Honnis who ascended from the north as through the same routes by Roberts; however, passing through alongside the connecting ridge to advance the summit. From the summit of this Mera peak; you get the astonishing view of Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and numerous other snowcapped peaks.

This two expedition summit of Baruntse and Mera peak climbing begins from the scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.  Our trekking commences from Paiya through the beautiful Sherpa village. Continuing trekking for few days, we will be crossing some of the areas like Pangkoma, Nigmsa, Chetrakhola, and Kothe through dense forest enjoying beautiful mountainous views. Then we will be doing short hiking to reach Khare - which is the Mera Base Camp. Lastly, we will be summiting the Baruntse and retrace back to the base camp and so on.
