Tibet Shishapangma Expedition

Overview

Shishapangma (8027 m and 26355 ft.) is one of the beautiful and sacred mountains of Tibet which lies in the Himalayan range of Tibet and Nepal. The Buddhist devotees worship this peak. It is the 14th highest peak in the world. It was opened by the Government of China to the western summiteers in 1978 and was first climbed by the Chinese Tibetan expedition in 1964.

Climbing to this peak is said to be somewhat easy but bit challenging. This peak in Nepalese is called as “Gosainthan” and in the Langtang region, this Himal (peak) is one of the highest. There is two base camp to this summit this peak - from the north or south side.

This expedition begins from touring some of the popular and most visited heritage sites of Kathmandu such as the Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath Stupa and the next day we fly to Lhasa, Tibet (Capital of Tibet). Next day we will be visiting the Potala Palace and acclimatize and resting the remaining hours. And next day, we drive to Shigatse and then drive to Xegar, and the following day - we hike up to visit the hilltop monastery.

Next - we drive to Shishapangma Base Camp and we will be acclimatizing and prepare for the summit. Next, we head to the Advanced Base Camp and then start our summit to the Shishapangma peak. After completing the summit, we retrace back to the base camp, and then to Tibet and finally back to Kathmandu.

This 44-day tour and summiting to the Shishapangma will be perfect during April - May, and October - November. We Accent Himalaya will provide you with the best-experienced guides and you don’t need to worry about the altitude as we will be resting and move on adapting the altitude acclimatizing. With being physically and mentally fit, even the novice expeditors can attempt this summit without any prior experience of climbing. Day 01: Arrival KTM & transfer to hotel - 1300m/4264ft

As you arrive at the Tribhuvan International airport our representative team will greet you and take you to the hotel and then we will check into the hotel. In the evening the Accent Himalaya Company will be giving you a welcome dinner in the fine Nepali restaurants which serve you the authentic Nepali cuisine and the leader will be also briefing about the adventurous expedition. We will be spending our night at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02-03: At leisure in Kathmandu

Today we will be sightseeing as well as prepare for our adventurous expedition as our climbing leader will be checking all the climbing equipment as we will be visiting the top most popular heritage sites of Kathmandu which is Pashupatinath temple- one of the famous Hindu temple and also the cremation sites of Hindus and next we will be visiting the Boudhanath stupa which is one of the biggest stupas in south Asia. If you have missed anything to buy your personal items than you can buy it today. We will be spending our night at the hotel.

Day 04: Fly to Lhasa

Today we will be flying to the capital city of Tibet- Lhasa. During your flight, you will get to capture several peaks like Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Tibetan valley. Reaching the Lhasa our team will be taking us to the standard hotel which will be near to the city. We will be acclimatizing at the Lhasa.

Day 05-06: Acclimatizing and discovering Lhasa

Today we will be acclimatizing as well as exploring the Lhasa as we will be visiting the beautiful Potala palace.

Day 07: Drive to Shigatse - 3,900m/12792 ft: 6 hrs

Today we will drive to the second largest city of Tibet- shin gates. We will be reaching at the bank of Tsang Po and we will drive for awhile to the upstream and then we will reach the Shigatse. We will be spending our night at shin gates.

Day 08: Drive to Xegar - 4,000m/13120 ft: 8 hrs

Today we will drive to Xegar and continue our track along the Tibetan highway and on the way, we will get the stunning peaks including with the Everest. We will be spending our night at the main town hotel of Xegar. and Day 9 to 30 Is climbing time

Day 09: Acclimatization Day

We will be acclimatizing and we will be also exploring the main town or even hike to the hilltop monastery.

Day 10-12: Base camp preparation

As today we will be preparing our climbing gears and we will be even acclimatizing at base camp before heading to the advance base camp.

Day 13: Move to Advanced Base Camp

Trek to ABC- Advanced Basecamp as the yaks will be carrying our load. Pursue a jeep roadway to a plateau over the river and subsequently to the west bank of the valley to the advanced base camp close to the snout of the Yambughangala glacier at 5,600m. From the base camp, it is approximately 20 kilometer to advanced base camp.

Day 14-39: The Climb

For the summit, there should be enough days for the proper acclimatization as well as we don’t know the exact weather condition it suddenly changes so, for the summit there should be extras days. Depend upon conditions; two to three camps are already set up over to advanced base camp. We will begin to ascend leading to a huge camp area which is at 6400 meters. We will be then reaching at the middle of the mountain and then reaches at camp 2 at7, 000 meters. North- west ridge can be easily reached from the camp 2. We will be climbing on ice and snow. Fixed ropes are sited on all sheer section. We will be climbing the lengthy summit ridge which raises crossways the snow-slope beneath. The west summit which is at 8,008 meters of Shishapangma is faster to arrive than the key summit. When we successfully summit the peak we will retrace back to advanced base camp by carrying out all our climbing gears.

Day 40: Return to Base Camp

We will get back to base camp as all our climbing gears will be carried out by the yaks. After that, we will take rest and explore the surrounding nearby.

Day 41: Depart Tibet

Today we will drive to Nepal and then we will be crossing the friendship bridge by afternoon and we will be either camping or stay at the lodge at tada panni.

Day 33: At leisure in Kathmandu

Today you can do souvenir shopping as in Nepal you can find lots of souvenir shops or we can also visit some of the sites nearby and then relax at the hotel.

Day 34: Depart Kathmandu

The journey finally comes to an end as today it is time to say goodbye to you all and we hope to see you soon for your next adventurous journey. Our representative team will come to pick you up from the hotel and before leaving the hotel room checks once again that you have not missed anything and then our team will be dropping you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule so, you reach on time and get plenty of time for the airport formalities.
