Overview

Trip facts

Duration: 14 Days

Country: Nepal

Lhotse is the 4th highest peak in planet Earth at an elevation of 8516 meter which lies to the south of Everest. It is also termed as “South Peak” in Tibetan or south face which is three kilometers away from the Everest. There are three summits as the – Main Lhotse (8616 m), Lhotse Middle or simply East Lhotse (8414 m) and the Lhotse Shar (8383 m).

The main summit of Lhotse was first climbed in 1956 by F. Luchsinger and E.ReissLhotse expedition being one of the difficult to summit with steep ridges of Khumbu ice fall, however rewards you with the stunning views of Nuptse (7861 m), Lobuche (6119 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Nirekha (6069 m) including with Mount Everest (8848 m) and several snow-capped peaks. The base camp of Lhotse is the same of the Everest Base Camp.

This expedition begins by a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. As for all trekking for every Everest region, we follow the same route and begin a short trek to Phakding. Following the Dudh Koshi River and crossing the suspension bridge, we will reach - Namche Bazaar (Most inhabitants here are from Sherpa communities). Continuing trekking for few days, we will be crossing some of the popular places of the Everest region such as Thyangboche and Dingboche. As Dingboche is a perfect place for adapting the altitude, we here we will be acclimatizing here by hiking to the hilly areas for some days.

After properly acclimatizing, we will be summiting the Lhotse Peak. Reaching the top of the peak - you will be observing various mountains of the Khumbu region and spend abundant time relishing the views. We will then retrace back to base camp and trek through Dingboche, Thyangboche and then to Namche Bazaar. Again back to Phakding, then to Lukla and finally fly back to Kathmandu to mark the completion of the trek.

This Lhotse Expedition is 48 days audacious journey where the itinerary has been carefully designed by our climbing expert team carefully focusing the altitude for clients to adjust the altitude with plenty of time. The perfect time to Lhotse Expedition will be in spring (March-May) as it is also a peak season for trekking and ascending the peak. October and November are also known perfect period but for winter and summer, should be avoided due to extreme freezing cold and scorching heat. So, if the flights cancel for 2 or more days, we will charter a helicopter to ensure you are on a scheduled flight to your home or other destination and the cost of this extra service is payable directly to our office at Kathmandu. If you have to use this service in US dollars or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards only), we will provide you the receipt of the payment with which you can claim the amount from your insurance company. The minimum cost for helicopter charter will be US $ 500 and the maximum US $ 3500 depending on the number of people in the flight.
